Staff Dormitory Design Guideline

A. Overview

With the increasing number of hotels opening each year, the demand for staffs both experienced or new recruits are increasing. For areas and regions such as China’s secondary and tertiary cities where the recruitment of qualified local staffs are limited, thus there is a demand for staffs from overseas or from neighboring provinces. Staff dormitory are provided as accommodation for these people. The dormitory may be an independent building built separate from the hotel or a part of the hotel delegated exclusive for full-time staff accommodation.

B. Facilities Requirement

Facilities provided are:

Toilet-Shower Facilities

Recreational Facilities

Pantry and Dining Area

1. Sleeping Quarters

a. The Sleeping Quarter for line staff shall be around 20M

3.50m wide x 6.00m

length with natural light and sized to accommodate the following equipments:

3 bunker beds per sleeping quarters, size of 1.00m wide x 2.00m length

or 4 1.20m wide x 2.00m length bed

One wardrobe per staff, size of 0.60m wide x 0.60m depth x 1.80 or 2.00m

high with built-in drawers

Shared study and writing table with electrical and data port for internet

b. The Sleeping Quarter for Supervisors (Band 4,5& 6) shall be sized to

accommodate the following equipments:

2 staffs to one sleeping quarter

One wardrobe per staff, size of 1.00m (minimum) wide x 0.60m depth x

1.80 or 2.00m high with built-in drawers.

1.00 x 0.6 x 1.82

Attached toilet and shower facilities per room

Bedside table and clock

Study or writing table with electrical and data port for internet connection

Sofa chair and coffee table

TV set, telephone facilities, coffee and tea making facilities,

c. The Sleeping Quarter for senior staff(Band 1,2& 3) shall be sized to

accommodate the following equipments:

Individual room with wardrobe and attached toilet-shower facilities

Bedside table and clock

Study or writing table with electrical and data port for internet connection

Provided with living hall furniture and dining table set

Sofa chair and coffee table

TV set, telephone facilities, coffee and tea making facilities

Skirting:

e. MECHANICAL / PLUMBING

Heating and air conditioning must be provided in the Sleeping Quarter.

f. ELECTRICAL

Provide electrical and data port for personal computer and internet

connection nearby the study or writing table.

Provide outlet suitably positioned to provide power for additional lamps or

other usage.

Surfaced mounted compact fluorescent.

2. Toilet-Shower Facilities

a. The toilet-shower for line staff

Communal toilet and shower should provide 1shower to 8~10 staff, 1

toilet to 40~50 staff. Include urinals and wash hand basins in compliance with local codes. Provide shower and toilet facility on each floor (male and female)

Showers, wash basins are to be kept separated from urinal and toilet

area.

Toilet and shower cubicles shall be provided with doors and individual

clothes hook.

Vanity counter with mirror and hair dryers as well as a separate full

length mirror shall be provided.

b. The toilet-shower for supervisor(Band 4,5& 6) and senior staff(Band 1,2&

3)

d. MECHANICAL / PLUMBING

Heating and air conditioning must be provided in the toilet-shower

Hot and cold water supplies must be provided in the toilet-shower.

e. ELECTRICAL

Provide outlets suitably positioned to provide power for hair dryer, shaver

or other usage.

Provide compact fluorescent down light and special vanity mirror lighting.

3. Recreational Facilities

TV lounge and rest area,

Ping-pong table (optional)

Public telephone booth,

Internet stations,

Library and Reading area

Notice board and art works

4. Pantry and Dining Area

a. Shared hotel cafeteria facilities, or communal self-cook pantry and dining

area

c. Pantry shall be equipped with kitchen cabinets, cooker and hob and

complete with crockery and cutlery, dining tables and benches.

6. Duty Dormitory

a. Duty Dormitory for line staff shall be sized to accommodate 4~6 bunker

beds per sleeping quarters, size of 1.00m wide x 2.00m length
