A Commerce Hub Fed by Transport

While Hongqiao Airport City’s image will be one overtly driven by transportation, its identity will be that of an exciting commercial center, a place of business that is activated by the dynamism of travel. Commerce mixes with tourism to create this vibrant new city center.Nevertheless, the Master Layout Plan shows an ordered structure by which these various uses will work together, and at times, separate from each other, to take advantage of synergies or to shield activity from private uses.

The public uses form the core of the project, with hospitality and co-ex uses adjoining. Class-A and research offices are located adjacent to this core, and clustered around internal open spaces, lining streets to reinforce continuity along streetwalls. A more informal configuration for service apartments and low-intensity retail characterizes the quieter, waterfront area.

The Central Park

The All Seasons Garden is the signature space inviting visitors to Shanghai

Immediately outside of the transportation hub, the All Seasons Garden is the

primary entrypoint into Hongqiao Airport City. It will be the primary icon and first impression for visitors to Shanghai. A multi-level winter garden, it is a vibrant open air space that allows ample daylight penetration in a first-class shopping and dining environment.

All Seasons Garden is directly linked to the Central Park, and is only the initial component to a larger, interconnected system of public and open spaces. This network permeates throughout Airport City, allowing pedestrian access to the various areas of the site.

A Hierarchy of Open Spaces for Various Users

Hongqiao Airport City will have a series of connected open spaces, each with a different role in the overall hierarchy. The Central Park and All Seasons Garden represent active, truly public spaces, with engaging retail and plazas for people to recreate and interact.

Internal courtyards serve the office blocks around the core area, providing semi-private spaces for workers.

The canalside park takes advantage of water as an amenity, with a pleasant atmosphere of open air cafes and light shopping for the serviced apartments’ residential lifestyle.

An elevated walkway system allows pedestrian circulation at the podium

level, which is on the same datum as the arrivals level for the airport, train and bus terminals, facilitating direct travel from the Airport to the Airport City. This system links the entire public space network.

The success of a pedestrian network lies in its connectivity to other path systems. These linkages allow pedestrians to choose the most efficient and fastest method to arrive at their destinations.Hongqiao Airport City has a number of path systems as part of its structure. This network starts with getting people directly from the transport hub to the development, via an elevated walkway system. This allows circulation at the podium level, the same datum as the arrivals level for the airport, train and bus terminals, facilitating direct travel from the Airport to All Seasons Garden and the Central Park and associated retail.From there pedestrians can access the hotels and exhibition center, as well as the various office and research clusters. Finally, the walkway systems connects directly with the canal promenade to complete the holistic network.

While all roads within the site are connected, along with the city’s grid, it is the distinguishing of certain roads for varying roles in the traffic hierarchy that will differentiate them. By having roads serve different purposes, traffic is separated to get people to their

respective destinations as efficiently as possible, and with reduced congestion.Therefore, the airport approaches are kept separate from the Airport City traffic. Instead, primary access will be from the western collector roads, bringing people who are going to Airport City right into the ceremonial main address. A parallel Airport City address is on the south side of the Central Park; these two roads will be the roads most associated with Airport City.

The Interdistrict Boulevard connects Airport City to adjacent area, and is

similarly kept separate from the waterfront road. By doing so, traffic can be

minimized by the canal, and the road can be designed at a more intimate, human scale.

A Commerce Hub Fed by Transport

While Hongqiao Airport City’s image will be one overtly driven by transportation, its identity will be that of an exciting commercial center, a place of business that is activated by the dynamism of travel. Commerce mixes with tourism to create this vibrant new city center.Nevertheless, the Master Layout Plan shows an ordered structure by which these various uses will work together, and at times, separate from each other, to take advantage of synergies or to shield activity from private uses.

The public uses form the core of the project, with hospitality and co-ex uses adjoining. Class-A and research offices are located adjacent to this core, and clustered around internal open spaces, lining streets to reinforce continuity along streetwalls. A more informal configuration for service apartments and low-intensity retail characterizes the quieter, waterfront area.

The Central Park

The All Seasons Garden is the signature space inviting visitors to Shanghai

Hongqiao Airport City will have a series of connected open spaces, each with a different role in the overall hierarchy. The Central Park and All Seasons Garden represent active, truly public spaces, with engaging retail and plazas for people to recreate and interact.

Internal courtyards serve the office blocks around the core area, providing semi-private spaces for workers.

The canalside park takes advantage of water as an amenity, with a pleasant atmosphere of open air cafes and light shopping for the serviced apartments’ residential lifestyle.

An elevated walkway system allows pedestrian circulation at the podium

level, which is on the same datum as the arrivals level for the airport, train and bus terminals, facilitating direct travel from the Airport to the Airport City. This system links the entire public space network.

The success of a pedestrian network lies in its connectivity to other path systems. These linkages allow pedestrians to choose the most efficient and fastest method to arrive at their destinations.Hongqiao Airport City has a number of path systems as part of its structure. This network starts with getting people directly from the transport hub to the development, via an elevated walkway system. This allows circulation at the podium level, the same datum as the arrivals level for the airport, train and bus terminals, facilitating direct travel from the Airport to All Seasons Garden and the Central Park and associated retail.From there pedestrians can access the hotels and exhibition center, as well as the various office and research clusters. Finally, the walkway systems connects directly with the canal promenade to complete the holistic network.

基地内的道路与城市网络有机的结合,而不同的道路等级将不同的功能空间分别开来。区分开的道路等级对于各自功能的终点起到分流作用,降低了交通的拥堵。因此机场迎宾大道与空港城的路网是分离的。空港城的主要交通入口是西面的道路,把行人带入空港城的中央开放空间及周边的各场所。空港城主干道位于中央公园南部,这两条道路成为空港城的主要交通连接。

区域性大道连接空港城和周边的地带,同样与滨水道路分离开。如此设置使运河帮助降低交通性,使道路的尺度更加人性化。

While all roads within the site are connected, along with the city’s grid, it is the distinguishing of certain roads for varying roles in the traffic hierarchy that will differentiate them. By having roads serve different purposes, traffic is separated to get people to their

respective destinations as efficiently as possible, and with reduced congestion.Therefore, the airport approaches are kept separate from the Airport City traffic. Instead, primary access will be from the western collector roads, bringing people who are going to Airport City right into the ceremonial main address. A parallel Airport City address is on the south side of the Central Park; these two roads will be the roads most associated with Airport City.

The Interdistrict Boulevard connects Airport City to adjacent area, and is

similarly kept separate from the waterfront road. By doing so, traffic can be

minimized by the canal, and the road can be designed at a more intimate, human scale.

Where there is connection to the underground system at the All-Seasons

Garden, the basement level is opened

up to bring a sense of spaciousness,

ventilation and daylight to the circulation

space below. This enhances the travelers

feeling of loftiness and connection to

the outside world. Underground links

are envisioned as part of the subway

concourses, linking to lower level retail

on both sides of the All Seasons Garden,

and in the south edge of the Hongqiao

Plaza. The Hongqiao Plaza is envisioned

to also have openings to below, bringing

a dynamic, multi-level terrace feeling

to the Plaza and enhancing a cooling

ambient temperature.

Parking and servicing occupies most

underground spaces in the other parcels,

with suggested reserves in parcel centers

to allow for natural roots for better

vegetation and landscaping.区别于之前的控规,本次规划鼓励公共活动在地面进行,而保持地下与地铁的连接。这样的处理有利于旅客的通行,创造步行的适宜空间,并且在竖向上与机场大厅同层,与交通枢纽结合成一个整体空间。在四季花园与地下系统的连接处,地下空间与下沉空间相结合,使地上与地下形成一个连续的整体,并巧妙的处理了通风及采光的问题。增强了旅客同室外空间的接触。地下交通是地铁站台的一部分,连接四季花园两边下层的商业空间和虹桥广场的南部区域。虹桥广场同样有下沉空间来丰富公共活动广场的竖向特色,把多层次的台地景观带入地下空间,同时创造一个舒适而多彩的空间。停车及服务空间占据其他地块的大部分地下空间,而上方通过植载起到降温造景的双重作用。

公共空间围绕中央主轴设置以达到:四季花园设计为气候控制的可变环境,• 降低区域内对车行的日使用率并具有以下特点:

• 在控制车行量的前提下增加交通人流• 高侧窗的设置在冬季引入日照,夏季运输量遮挡阳光

• 降低交通堵塞• 太阳能板可收集能源的同时透过部分• 提倡健康生活方式阳光

• 雨水收集系统为整个区域的植被提供
