Years ago, doctors often said that pain was a normal part of life. In particular,

We know that chronic (慢性的) pain can disrupt (扰乱) a person’s life, causing problems that 50____ from missed work to depression.

That ’s why a growing number of hospitals now depend upon physicians who 51____ in pain medicine. Such comprehensive therapy often 53____ the work of social workers, psychiatrists (心理医生) and psychologists, as well as specialists in pain medicine.

This modern 54____ for pain management has led to a wealth of innovative treatments which are more effective and with fewer side effects than ever before. Decades ago, there were only a 55____ number of drugs available, and many of them caused 56____ side effects in older people, including dizziness and fatigue.

A) result

B) involves

C) significant

D) range

E) relieved

F) issues G) seriously H) magnificent I) determining J) limited K) gravely L) complained M) respect N) prompting O) specialize

名词后缀:tion/sion/ness/ment/er/or/ist/ism

形容词后缀:able/al/ant/ent/tive/sive/ous/less/ed/ing

动词后缀:ate/lize/ing/ed

副词后缀:ly/ward/wise

F) issues B) involves

N) prompting

E) relieved

B)involves F)issues

K) gravely

D)range

47题: when older patients __47__ of pain,前面是patients 为复数名词,后面是of ,确定应填入一个动词; 后半句为they were told告诉我们填入过去时动词,满足此题的单词分别是:J) limited L)complained E)relieved,根据本句中的pain(痛苦) ,确定L)complained(抱怨) 与pain(痛苦) 的感情方向一致。

49题:in __49__ a person’s well-being.,我们知道,in 后面跟两种词性,名词或动名词,比如spend time in doing sth,所以满足的单词有I) determining决定,确定 N)prompting ,2猜1。

50题:causing problems that __50__ from missed work to depression.,由于有from---to---, 所以填入动词单配这两个介词,由于没有任何特殊信息词,本题填入一个动词原形,由于前面是problems 这个复数,所以排掉B)involves ,满足的只有O) specialize ,D)range ,两个都不认识,先放着不管,待会再结合处理。 51题:now depend upon physicians who __51__ in pain medicine,后面是in ,确定填动词搭配in ,前面是physicians who ,人作主语,并且是复数,所以必须是动词原形,满足的单词依然是O) specialize ,D)range ,我们可以将50和51题全部填入O) specialize,结果是必对一道,有时候放弃是为了得到。

52题:other psychological and social __52__,前面是psychological and social这两个形容词,空内应该填入名词,由于是other ,要求我们填入一个名词复数,满足的只有一个单词F)issues B)involves,二选一,别着急,让我们看下一道题。 53题:Such comprehensive therapy often __53__ the work,前面是often ,要求空内填入实义动词,Such comprehensive therapy明显是单数,不认识也无所谓,确定空内的填入的单三形式的动词,满足的是F)issues B)involves ,知道怎么样最功利吗?

D)range

55题:there were only a __55__ number of drugs available, 根据后面的名词number ,和前面的a ,我们确定天形容词修饰number, 满足的有C) significant

56题:and many of them caused __56__ side effects ,后面是名词概念side effects ,填入形容词来修饰吧!

What determines the kind of person you are? What factors make you more or

less bold, intelligent, or able to read a map? All of these are influenced by the interaction of your genes and the environment in which you were The study of how genes and environment interact to influence activity is known as behavioral genetics. Behavioral genetics has made important to the biological revolution, providing information about the extent to which biology influences mind, brain and behavior.

Any research that suggests that 50 abilities to perform certain behaviors are based in biology is controversial. Who wants to be told that there are limitations to genes? It is easy to accept that genes control physical characteristics such as sex, race and eye color. But can genes also determine whether people will get divorced, how 52 smart they are, or what career they are likely to choose? A concern of psychological scientists is the to which all of these characteristics are influenced by nature and nurture (养育), by genetic makeup and the environment. When we think of green buildings, we tend to think of new ones – the kind of

high-tech, solar-paneled masterpieces that make the covers of architecture magazines. But the U.S. has more than 100 million existing homes, and it would be wasteful to tear them all down and them with greener versions. An enormous amount of energy and resources went into the construction of those houses. And it would take an average of 65 years for the carbon emissions from a new energy-efficient home to make up for the resources lost by destroying an old one. So in the broadest built. But at the same time, nearly half of U. S. carbon emissions come from heating, cooling and our homes, offices and other buildings. "You can't deal with climate change without dealing with existing buildings," says Richard Moe, the president of the National Trust.

With some 52 exceptions, the oldest homes tend to be the least energy-efficient. Houses built before 1939 use about 50% more energy per square foot than those built after 2000, mainly due to the tiny cracks and gaps that over time and let in more outside air.

In families with two working parents, fathers may have more impact on a child’s

language development than mothers, a new study suggests.

Researchers 92 families from 11 child care centers before their

children were a year old, interviewing each to establish income, level of education and child care arrangements. Overall, it was a group of well-educated middle-class families with married parents both living in the home.

When the children were 2, researchers videotaped them at home in free-play

sessions with both parents, the November issue of The Journal of Applied Developmental Psychology.

The scientists measured the number of utterances (话语) of the parents,

the number of different words they used, the complexity of their sentences and other

Every year in the first week of my English class, some students inform me that

writing is too hard. They never write, unless assignments it. They find the writing process and difficult.

How awful to be able to speak in a language but not to write in it, English with its rich vocabulary. Being able to speak but not write is like living in an mansion(豪宅) and never leaving one small room . When I meet students who think they can’t write, I know as a teacher my them the rest of the rooms. My task is to build fluency while providing the opportunity inherent in any writing activity to development of my students. One great way to do this is by having students write in a journal in class every day.

Writing ability is like strength training. Writing needs to be done , just like exercise; just as muscles grow stronger with exercise, writing skills improve quickly with writing practice. I often see a rise in student confidence and Expressing oneself in writing is one of the most important skills I teach to strengthen the whole student. When my students practice journal writing, they are practicing for their future academic, political, and lives. They build skills so that some day they might write a great novel, a piece of sorely needed legislation, or the perfect love letter. Every day that they write in their journals puts them a step 56 closer to fluency, eloquence (雄辩), and command of language .

The popular notion that older people need less sleep than younger adults is a

myth, scientists said yesterday. While elderly people to sleep for fewer hours than they did when they were younger, this has a(n) effect on their brain's performance and they would benefit from getting more, according to research.

Sean Drummond, a. psychiatrist (心理医生) at the University of California, San

Diego, said older people are more likely to suffer from broken sleep, while younger people are better at sleeping More sleep in old age, however, is with better health, and most

older people would feel better and more if they slept for longer periods, he said.

―The ability to sleep in one chunk (整块时间) overnight goes down as we age

but the amount of sleep we need to well does not change,‖ Dr Drummond told the American Association for the Advancement of Science conference in San Diego.

―It's older adult is, the more they sleep like they did when they were suggests that older adults would benefit from to get as much sleep as they did in their 30s. That's from person to person, but the amount of sleep we had at 35 is probably the same amount as we need at 75.‖

Increasingly, science that genes lay the groundwork for many human traits. From this perspective, people are born like undeveloped photographs: The image is already captured, but the way it appears can vary based on the development process. However, the basic picture is there from the beginning.

Fortunately, there are a 54 vast number of relatively simple changes that can green older homes, from ones like Lincoln's Cottage to your own postwar home.

The scientists measured the number of utterances (话语) of the parents,

the number of different words they used, the complexity of their sentences and other

did not differ in the length of utterances or proportion of questions asked.

Finally, the researchers the children ’s speech at age 3, using a

standardized language test. The only predictors of high scores on the test were the mother ’s level of education, the words the father used.

The researchers are ’s speech, and not the mother’s, had

an effect. ―It ’s well that the mother’s language does have an impact,‖ said Nadya Pancsofar, the lead author of the study. It could be that the high-functioning mothers in the study had children ’s speech development, Ms. Pancsofar said, ―or it may be that mothers are in a way we didn’t measure in the study.‖
